I wrote this when I heard someone very special to me being yelled at and I felt heavy anger towards the person doing the yelling, then this came to be, it's a snippet of a much larger story involving the character I use now. It's still being written up, but this was a scene that could use a little bit of working over, but still ended up being one of my favorite things I've put together. Mind you, it takes place in the future, a future long away from us.
Home of Laura’s parents, Bridgeport Connecticut, 23:30 EST 2220
Laura having snuck out of the Outcast HQ in fear of being dragged deeper than she already was, ran off to her parents home. Thinking that her Mother and Step Father could help her out in keeping her safe and hidden from anyone pursuing suspected Outcasts and the ones who thought she was involved with them. She had called ahead and her Mother had told her she could help, upon arriving, Laura knocked on the door and saw that only that the living room light was on. Her Step Father opened the door and told her to come in, stepping aside to let her come in and get comfortable. Without looking, Laura walked in and her Step Father shut the door, when she turned to look at the far side of the living room, men that had been after her were sitting there, two armed security personnel now standing and their boss who was all dressed up in a suit.
“Laura Mandel, you’re under arrest for suspicion of being an Outcast, if you resist, you will be faced with brute force from my men, come quietly, and nothing may happen to you.” The suited man stated as he motioned to the two men to make their arrest of her. She looked at her Step Father who was shaking hands with the man and was given a nice reward for his services and at the door, knowing she now had no chance to escape.
It was at this moment, where she felt death would come either way, that she was stopped by the sound of shattering glass and a cloaked figure making quick work of all three of the men from the corporation head security division and had her Step Father pinned by his throat to the wall.
“It’s my oath to never kill that keeps me from stopping your every breath at this very moment. You betrayed the daughter of the woman you supposedly loved. For this, you are now my first target if my ability to kill is ever given. You will leave this place and all your belongings for her Mother to live in peace, you don’t want to know what I’ll do if I find you have not listened to my every word, do you understand me?!” An angry Nighthawk squeezing the mans throat as his glowing eyes from his eye cover became very bright and shot fear into the mans veins.
Dropping the man, Laura watched her Step Father run out the door and he never stopped running, leaving Nighthawk to walk over to Laura and pull back his hood, his face completely uncovered as he had lowered his eye plating.
“You shouldn’t have run, now I have to tie up your Mother to make her look innocent in all this and take you with us. You dug yourself this deep grave and can’t get out of it until the war is over. I’m sorry Laura.”
Nighthawk held out his hand, Laura taking it with tears in his eyes as she found her Mother with a bruise on her eye, her Step Father was so greedy, he had struck his wife to turn in her only daughter. Laura hugged her Mother and looked at Nighthawk who had turned away as if to keep watch and give them their privacy.
Laura tapped Nighthawk on the shoulder and pointed to the room, showing that Laura had made her Mother look innocent herself.
“Come on Hawk, take me back the Outcasts, I belong there now. I just hope one day I can see her again before she dies.” Laura looked at her Mother with tears in her eyes, afraid she’d never see her again, until Nighthawk placed a hand on her shoulder and led her out of the house.
“Don’t worry, I promise I’ll do everything in my power to end this so you can see her again. I lost my Mother before I became what I am and my Father…well I never cared much for him after I became this. Come on, we have to get home before they wake up and more trouble arrives.”
Together, Nighthawk and Laura walked out of the house and together on his motorcycle, rode back to the Outcast Headquarters.
