Every now and then, I put those of you who read through the torture of knowing how I feel, even if you don't want to know. I have just decided to make an entirely different column for it now. So now my "senseless ranting" has a title which is appopriately called...
I am so sick of turning on the television to the news and hear nothing but messages of fear and despair. Just because we have these problems doesn't mean we should capitalize on them. How can you make a solution if all you focus on is the problem? Take today for example. It is September 11,. 2006, five years after the terrorists hit us in the gut by taking down the World Trade Center in New York. I realize that we must always keep this day in memory and prayer for those who lost their lives on that tragic day. However, must we keep reminding our fellow Americans of the panic we felt on that day. Aren't we supposed to feel safe within our countries walls knowing that our brave men and women in our armed forces are out there risking their lives so that we, the people, can sleep better at night? Then why do all of our media resources promote the fact that we are not safe? Why does our fearless leader, the President of the United States, always walk around with a terrified look in his eyes. Have we really lost that much faith in ourselves and our troops to know that we can band together and protect our way of life and our fellow Americans? It is as if all of those men and women in our military forces are fighting for nothing. How safe can we feel when our President is constantly installing fear into our minds? Why bother fighting if we have already given up our courage. I don't know about you folks but I am tired of living in fear and always watching over my shoulder whenever a balloon pops. I'm tired of how we, as Americans, are continuously compromise the beliefs that our country has been founded on for two hundred years. And I am TIRED of how every time I turn on the news it spreads and infectious message of impending doom meant to damper my faith and raise my anxiety. I can say with a certain amount of confidence that I have enough trouble trying to live my life and afford it too. I can't imagine the sort of hell that other people live in when they also bring the daily news into their life. Don't we have enough to worry about?
Perhaps I would be viewed as unpatriotic from some of my more political points of view. Or perhaps I'm as patriotic as I get invoking the right of the first amendment of one of our countries most valued historical documents. Either way, I'm not one to shut my mouth about things once I feel I have explored all sides of an arguments. I am that annoying person who will stand up and say "In God We Trust" and have no fear of those who hear. I was brought up from a wholesome christian family. I was always taught by my mother that if you say nothing, than no one will hear.
America has made a lot of compromises. We have foreign immigrants who live in our country comfortably, living off of our benefits, and some not even intending to become American citizens. Does anyone else see a fault in this? Or perhaps the fact that we natural born Americans are forced to learn other languages to get better paying jobs or just to understand some of our fellow "citizens" who have decided against learning the English language. I don't know about you, but it is hard enough to keep up with the English slang as it is, but then we have to learn the slang of another language too? How many languages can you learn in one lifetime?
How about the issue of religion? Now I don't usually like to talk about it. Honestly, it is not a big deal. You believe one thing and another person may believe something totally different. That is cool. It is only if you try to push your beliefs on me that I get a little testy. But when we fought England in 1776, we fought not only to get away from British rules and lifestyle, but to be able to build one of our own. We wanted to govern ourselves so that we could create a nation of equals. A nation that we can feel free and secure enough to make our own. And while we had the freedom of religion amendment written in our Bill of Rights, I don't believe that our forefathers could foresee that we would ever compromise the legs that held us strong for over 200 years. To take prayer out of school is fine, but you start taking that one step further and taking it off of our money and out of OUR pledge of allegiance is a little silly isn't it? And why? Because we don't want to offend those people who CAME to US? That is like a guest coming into your house and saying, "I don't like the way your house is decorated so I am going to rip everything out and start fresh." How would that make you feel? I tell you what, I would be throwing that guest out flat on their butt in no time saying, "If you don't like the way I have things, than don't come over." Of course I have always been a little too bold for other people's taste but do you see my point? So why should we take "Under God" out of the Pledge of Allegiance or "In God We Trust" off the dollar bill? It was here first, and now we are kicking it out of our nation wide founding stone so that we don't offend anyone else? I'm sorry but if they are THAT offended by it they can either grow up or leave. And I'm sure their home countries would say the same to us if we tried to cry about their religion.
Perhaps these views are the reason we have terrorists. But, again, if they don't like it perhaps they should grow up a little. We as humans have the right to express our views and opinions. But to be driven to the point of killing someone just because they are different than we is both childish and wrong. Not everyone believes the same thing and if we killed everyone who believed something different than what we do it would be a grim and boring world. Not to mention very lonely and empty. We have our ways and they have theirs, why can we all just share our world and get along like good little boys and girls? I hate to think of our fine world's leaders as nothing but spoiled children but due to actions taken in recent events, they have really left me no other alternatives for my political views.
So here it is, my political spirit broken. My faith in my fellow man dampened and tossed away. But not by the message of the media, but by the actions of man. How long must we continue these killing spree's to force people to see things our way? How long must our family's grieve for a lost love one in the cause of a pointless war? How long must we sit and suffer as our leaders deliver messages of fear under the guise of false hope?
Don't take this all the wrong way, I am not a pessimist. I do believe in the actions of a singular person. I believe that somewhere, there are good people in the world and that these people are doing all that they can to make their world better for their family and their neighbors. I believe in our troops overseas even though I may not believe in the cause they are fighting for. These men and women are heroic and courageous, and when they should come home, be constantly reminded of how much their country appreciates all that they do in helping us at home feel safe and secure. And to my troops I send undying love and support from my heart, because it is you who is fighting for the children of our country. It is you who is fighting for those of us who cannot fight for ourselves. And it is you that will forever and always restore the faith in my fellow man that was so wrongly dampened my others. I will love you all always and prey that one day you can all safely return home to your loved ones.
For now, that is really all I have to say.
PS: I am really sorry to all who are offended by my words. They were not meant to directly harm anyone or point any fingers but to mearly state a point of view. Those who have read this with an open and mature state of mind, thank you for reading. And those who were very offended, please accept my apologies for all of my short comings.
